Well you might think you’d be able to head to London for some decent music and yes we do have a few pistes in the UK – mainly Scotland - where you can ski and snowboard occasionally but you wouldn’t really think of London as a great winter sports destination so why on earth are we suggesting it? Well we’re suggesting it because this October sees the return of the Relentless Freeze Festival to Battersea Power Station London

Well we’re suggesting it because this October sees the return of the Relentless Freeze Festival to Battersea Power Station London. The festival, now in its third year, will see the best international skiers and snowboarders take part in two days of frantic competition on a 32 metre snow ramp – built using over 500 tonnes of real snow. There’s also going to be two days of the best music around and a chance to see all this seasons’ latest kit, skis and boards so it’s looking like the perfect destination for some much needed pre-winter snow warming up.

The festival runs over the 28th and 29th of October and will feature some of the most incredible winter sports displays available anywhere in the world. When it comes to skiing you’re in for a treat with Friday seeing the freestyle ski big air competition, where international skiers will be competing to pull off some of the best tricks available in the world, and the battle of Britain competition which precedes it will showcase the very best of British talent taking to the incredible jump. Saturday is set to be equally spectacular with the Europe versus the world ski and snowboard battle where Europe’s top names will be facing off against some of the world’s strongest talent. This is set to be one of the highlights of this year’s winter sports season so don’t miss out.

For you snowboarders out there the weekend is set to be just as incredible with the already mentioned battle of Britain contest and the Europe versus the world. But the highlight is set to be the finals of the LG World Snowboarding cup which promises to be a full blown trick off where we can guarantee to see the sickest tricks in the world – forget the Alps, forget the winter X games get to London for the best tricks this winter.

All this incredible action is set to take place on the bespoke 32 metre high, 100 metre long kicker created especially for the event using 500 tonnes of liquid nitrogen and water manufactured snow. As previous years testify to the jump will tower over the Battersea being the equivalent of stacking 8 double-deckers on top of each other. As legendary British snowboarder Dom Harington testifies "Yeah, it’s quite scary at the top because you can feel it wobbles, but it's an amazing scenery over the whole of London from up there." I think we’d personally have to agree.

Finally of course the festival isn’t just about winter sports – it’s also about the music. Each year Relentless Freeze seems to try and outdo itself on the music front and this year is no exception. Headlining the two day festival are Groove Armada and the Streets. The streets after 10 years at it are now bidding farewell to music to pursue other things so this is literally one of the last chances you will have to see them. Groove Armada are still as strong as ever and they promise to deliver their usual brand of dance extravaganza. The line-up is looking exceptional this year with home grown favourites like Beardyman and Slaves to Gravity making up the meat of what promises to be an epic weekend of music and winter warm ups.
