The keynote speaker is Cynthia Wong, PhD, Associate Professor of English at the University of Colorado. Ms Wong is considered to be one of the world’s leading scholars on Mr Ishiguro and his works and she has published a number of books and articles on the author.
The conference will be held at Ankara’s Culture and Convention Halls, which are easily accessible from any hotel in Ankara City Centre. The final conference details are still to be confirmed, but will include a city tour, which will take in a visit to the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations and Ankara Castle, on the afternoon of Tuesday 13th December. Previous years’ timetables have included a number of short papers presented by various academics during the course of the two days of the conference, followed by discussion time, which will give attendees the opportunity to ask questions.
Kazuo Ishiguro is one of Britain’s most celebrated novelists. He has been up for nomination for the MAN-Booker prize four times and been awarded it once, for the novel ‘Remains of the Day’. METU is one of Turkey’s premier universities and has an excellent reputation across a number of academic disciplines.
The conference is usually very well attended, so early registration is recommended. Early registration fees are 170 Turkish Lira/USD$100/€75 or tickets can be bought at the Conference Registration Desk for 190 Turkish Lira/USD$110/€85. The fee includes a conference pack, lunch on both days, refreshments throughout the conference and a wine and cheese party on the Monday evening. The tour of the city is also included in the fee, but museum entrance is extra.
