SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 2005 – High-performance plug-and-play gateway products for service providers to offer enterprise customers that want to immediately migrate to IP telephony – without changing out their legacy network infrastructure – are now available. Already adopted and remarketed by leading North American carriers, Alpha Telecom’s Arion family of VoIP gateways provide enterprise customers with carrier-class VoIP services that work with their existing non-VoIP digital Centrex or privately-owned PBXs and hundreds or thousands of expensive desktop digital telephones.

Presenting service providers with new revenue opportunities, the Arion VoIP gateways are offered with a carrier-class element-management system for seamless provisioning, maintenance and support of IS departments and individual end-users, without their needing PC access.

Alpha Telecom’s VoIP gateways seamlessly migrate an enterprise’s legacy telephones into either a softswitch platform or a network-gateway/central-office switch, such as Lucent iMerge (Arion gateways are currently the only ones approved for seamless migration into iMerge). This enables RBOCs, CLECs and other service providers to offer Centrex features over their IP backbone and to seamlessly provision, configure and manage VoIP phone service without user intervention; the service provider merely ships the Arion units to an enterprise’s IT department for plug-and-play attachment to existing digital or analog phones.

A major selling point for service providers is that Alpha Telecom VoIP gateways extend the life of an enterprise’s legacy system on a per-user or per-workgroup basis. This allows customers to enjoy the benefits of VoIP with their existing digital telephones, including expensive speaker phones, whose quality is far superior to current dedicated VoIP speaker phones. For the enterprise customer, this avoids a much larger capital expense and alleviates the need for extensive reprogramming, rewiring, installation and retraining that would inevitably be required for "forklift" investment in a new VoIP network system.

"Carriers who deliver broadband phone services to their clients are always looking for cost-effective new offerings that give them an added revenue stream quickly," said Sid Sung, founder and president of Alpha Telecom. "Our Arion series VoIP gateways provide such an opportunity and have already been proven in the enterprise marketplace by a blue chip roster of customers."

Sung added that because Arion gateways support such a diversity of platforms and are intelligently managed, Alpha Telecom is the right customer-premises equipment (CPE) partner for VoIP service providers and switch manufacturers.

Alpha Telecom’s Arion family comprises the 1000 series for ISDN-based telephones, 2000 series for Nortel P-Phones, and 3000 series for POTS/analog phones, thus offering service providers a total VoIP gateway solution.
