Juice once again suffered a loss in off-trade volume sales in 2013 after having already posted annual declines over 2008-2012. In the off-trade, volume sales declined while value sales grew in 2013. The decline in volume sales was the result of two coinciding developments. Firstly, German consumers remained more oriented towards carbonates and flavoured water, with many young consumers regarding fruit juice as old-fashioned. Secondly, high unit prices put off many consumers on low incomes.

Competitive Landscape

Eckes-Granini Deutschland GmbH remained the leading branded player in 100% juice and nectars in Germany in 2013 in off-trade value terms. The company posted a small loss in share in 2013 due to the implementation of price increases. In juice drinks, Deutsche SiSi-Werke remained the leading branded player. The company put in a strong performance in 2013, which was driven by its organic range Bio-Schorly and its new Cool Summer, which was launched during the year.
