Non-store retailing outperformed store-based retailing in 2013, with a current value growth rate that was four percentage points higher. Categories such as consumer electronics and video games hardware internet retailing and media products internet retailing recorded explosive growth rates in 2013, as well as in the last half of the review period. Despite store-based transactions representing the large majority of retailing sales, the small base of non-store sales was reflected in higher growth rates that are expected to develop positively during the forecast period.

Competitive Landscape

In 2013, Nuvo Cosmeticos and Cosmeticos Avon de Uruguay dominated direct selling, and remained at the top of non-store retailing with respective value shares of 19% and 14%. Nuvo Cosmeticos, a domestic company present in the country since 1984, was acquired in 2005 by Tupperware Brands, which reintroduced Tupperware products that same year. The successful combination of beauty and personal care products plus Tupperware and housewares maintained Nuvo Cosmeticos at the top of direct selling and non-store retailing over the entire review period. Henderson & Cia SA (Tienda Inglesa), which led internet retailing in 2013, ranked third overall within non-store retailing with a 12% value share in 2013.
