There are just a few players within the category with several strong brands, which are regularly diversified in terms of new tastes and packaging. As a result, year-to-year sales are usually driven by consumers’ response to new launches and taste diversification, which in general makes the category dependent on impulse purchases. During hot summer, cider is often purchased as an alternative to beer, especially by women, which makes total category sales dependent also on weather conditions.

Cesu Alus led cider with its Fizz brand, holding a volume share of 41% in 2013. The company constantly introduces new flavour combinations. Amongst available Fizz flavours are strawberry, blueberry, cherry and cranberry. In 2012, the company additionally introduced Fizz Fragolino with an innovative strawberry and red grape flavour. The launch was inspired by world-famous wild strawberry sparkling wine Fragolino. Since 2012 the company has also offered Sherwood cider, brewed according to English traditions and coming in two tastes – apple and pear. In 2013, the company also launched Fizz Winter with apple taste and vanilla and cinnamon added, which is supposed to become an alternative to mulled wine.
