During August 2013 Woolworths acquired EziBuy, the highest ranking homeshopping company in New Zealand, for NZ$350 million. Woolworths purchased the company from its owners, Peter and Gerard Gillespie, and Catalyst Investment Managers. The Gillespie brothers had owned EziBuy Ltd for 35 years, originally founding the company, while Catalyst Investment Managers bought into the business in February 2007. EziBuy was founded in 1978 and began as a single store in Palmerston North, New Zealand. During 2013 the company was a multichannel retailer, selling online, via call centres and catalogues.
