Following its takeover of the brands Cohiba, Montecristo and Partagas from Balli SA, Phoenicia Fereos assumed the leading position in cigars excluding cigarillos in 2013, commanding a 69% volume share of sales. Phoenicia Fereos Hellas was also the company to see the biggest increase in share.

Cigars are a luxury purchase, hence their consumption is strongly linked to disposable incomes. Unless the economy shows signs of recovery over the forecast period, the category is highly likely to continue to contract. Euromonitor International thus estimates that the category will register a volume CAGR decline of 2% but a positive value CAGR of 2% at constant 2013 prices.
