At the end of the review period outbound trips saw significant increases or decreases in the number of trips to different countries. For example, the number of trips to Syria declined significantly due to the political conflict in the country. Outbound trips to the UK, France and Germany declined largely due to the strict visa issuing policies of these countries for Turkish nationals. Thus, Turkish citizens preferred to visit countries with looser or no visa requirements. The number of trips to Russia and Ukraine, for example, increased by 4% and 34% respectively in 2013.
