Therefore, the category recorded a 1% volume sales decline in 2013. However, in value terms, footwear grew by 1% as unit prices rose due to inflation, increasing manufacturers input costs.

Competitive Landscape

The specialist retailer Deichmann-Obuv was the leading company in footwear with a value share of 12% in 2013 thanks to its wide number of outlets across the country and its offer of good enough quality shoes at affordable prices. In second spot was another specialist retailer Bata, holding a 7% value share in 2013 thanks to its focus on bringing innovative products to the market following the latest fashion needs. Changes to the company’s value share were only marginal.

Industry Prospects

Volume sales of footwear are predicted to return to positive growth, which was seen before the economic crises in the country, as increases in consumer purchasing power are expected. Therefore footwear will see a volume CAGR of 2% over the forecast period. In terms of value sales, no significant changes are expected and the category will witness a CAGR of 1% in value sales at constant 2013 prices over the forecast period.
