New market study, "Tourism Flows Domestic in Poland", has been published

Growth in domestic tourism slowed down substantially in 2013 following the exceptionally healthy growth recorded in the category in 2012, which was driven by Poland's co-hosting of the UEFA Euro 2012 football championships. During, 2013 Poles took 41 million tourist trips within their own country. This translated into 1% growth from 2012. The only reason that the number of domestic trips did not decline after the spike recorded during 2012 it the rising tendency for Polish to take higher numbers of shorter trips. The most popular domestic trips are now trips of up to three days, which comprised 62% of total domestic trips in 2013. Trips of between four and seven days in duration accounted for 30% of total domestic trips taken in Poland in 2013, while trips of over seven days in length accounted for 9% of total domestics trips during the year.

Industry Prospects

During the forecast period, the development of domestic tourism is set to remain a major trend in travel and tourism in Poland. First, Poles increasingly appreciate the many interesting places which are worth visiting within their own country. This is mainly due to the rise of the internet and various promotional campaigns which encourage travellers to visit various different provinces. Second, domestic tourism is set to benefit from ongoing changes in the lifestyles of Polish people. Poles have tended to decide on organising short trips spontaneously at the last moment. This includes mostly weekends spent in the countryside in locations such as the country's beautiful lakes, where they can go rafting and canoeing, among other activities. Third, Poles are set to perceive outgoing foreign trips as more attractive, although the uncertain economic circumstances may force many Poles to choose domestic destinations instead. Numerous Poles are set to be guided by the principle that it is better to have even for a short break in the countryside than not to have a break at all.
