Furthermore, maturity in malt-based hot drinks - which represents the largest value of sales in other hot drinks - growth has begun to slow.

Competitive Landscape

Nestle remained dominant, with a 56% value share in other hot drinks in 2013; mainly thanks to its popular brand Milo. The long-established history, high product quality, reasonable prices and a national distribution network were the competitive advantages of this company. Furthermore, the company was very active in marketing, using television ads, PR events and promotional activities extensively. For example, the company organized a program named "Trai he nang luong Nestle MILO" from 8 June to 10 August 2013. The program allowed children to play football and basketball under the coaching of the coaches of the under 13 and under 14 national teams and the Ho Chi Minh City Basketball Federation, as well as the teachers of University of Physical Education and Sports. Furthermore, children had opportunities to meet and interact with their favourite national athletes, including Cong Vinh, a soccer player and Paul Chong a basketball player for Ho Chi Minh City's team. This activity attracted many children and supported retail current value growth of 16% in 2013.
