In-car entertainment volume sales contracted by 26% in 2013 and 3% in 2014 driven by a mix of import barriers imposed in 2011 including tax increases, non-automatic import licences and new legislation regarding maps included in imported navigation systems. Imports of in-car navigation continue to decline and according to a report from INDEC (national institute of statistics) on retail volume sales, in-car navigation fell by 44% in the second quarter of 2013, by 5% in the third quarter and by 40% during the fourth quarter. For in-car speakers and in-dash media the environment is even more negative given the high dependence on imports, with only a few brands and models present in the country.

A sharp decline in used car sales, increasing theft of cars and car accessories and increasing penetration of competitive portable technologies will undermine growth, together with import restrictions which will be in place in the short term.
