Only around 45% of Germans between the ages of 18 and 35 use a car on a regular basis, let alone own one, as opposed to almost 60% in 2000. Consequently in-car entertainment, including in-car navigation, continued to lose significance throughout the review period. The category as a whole is set to post a 9% volume decline in 2014.

Industry Prospects

As consumers increasingly shift towards more frequent car-sharing and public transportation and away from owning their own car, and as new cars continue to be equipped with increasingly sophisticated and complex systems, the in-car entertainment category is expected to register an ongoing decline over the forecast period. Volume sales of in-car entertainment are set to record a further decline over the forecast period; however, the rate of decline is set to be slower than the average year-on-year decline seen over the review period.
