Retailers used up their stocks in 2013, which built up during 2012, when import restrictions were relaxed by the government as part of its strategy in the build-up to presidential elections in October 2012.

Competitive Landscape

Mabe de Venezuela led microwaves in 2014 with a retail volume share of 21%, mainly due to rising brand awareness and the strong presence of the company in retail channels with the brands GE and Mabe. However, in 2014 the availability of these brands was limited due to import restrictions. Ranked second was Electrolux Comercial de Venezuela with a 19% volume share, and Samsung Venezuela was third with 16%.

Industry Prospects

Companies, especially importers, will struggle to remain competitive over the forecast period, amidst import restrictions and limited access to foreign exchange, which will continue to cause strong price increases. As a result, microwaves could be negatively affected by difficulties related to importing products.
