Both new car retail, and used car retail suffered a large backdrop in sales due to the economic crisis. New car models usually come with a built in in-car entertainment system, and this makes separate in-car entertainment devices unnecessary. This trend, at newer models on the used-car market also applies, and this leads to decreasing demand for such devices. Older used car models are a possible target for such devices; however, the purchasing power of those buying such cars is limited. Another target group is people driving a lot and especially abroad where in-car navigation alternatives – smartphones cannot be used much due to high costs of roaming internet fees.
Industry Prospects
During the forecast period, in-car entertainment is expected to record a decline in both retail volume and value sales at constant 2013 prices with CAGRs of -2% and -4% respectively. Unit price for the forecast period is also expected to show a decline, which is the main attribute behind the sharp value decline compared to volume terms.
