During the year, bottled water attracted sales from other soft drink products such as carbonates and juice due to its lower sugar and calorie levels and a public view of bottled water as being pure with a much more limited, if any, amount of added and artificial ingredients.

Competitive Landscape

Carlsberg Sverige AB leads bottled water in Sweden with a 41% off-trade value share in 2014. This share almost exclusively comes from its brand Ramlösa, a brand whose history dates back over 300 years and that is very well recognised by Swedes and claimed 40% share of bottled water in off-trade value terms in 2014. The company also owns the brand Imsdal, a Norwegian product that is favoured by many Swedes.

Industry Prospects

It is the bottled water products that are the furthest away from tap water that will be the most dynamic and have the most new product developments over the forecast period. Swedes are expected to continue to be less willing to pay a high unit price for bottled water products that are similar to what they can get from the tap. These dynamic product groups will also be the ones introducing the more interesting products to attract the consumers’ attention and interest in at least trying the beverage out.
