Uncertainty surrounding Greece, as well as the heightened risk of a hard landing in China, present short-term downside for Germany's IT market and are reflected in our relatively bearish outlook for 2015. Over the medium term we expect these risks to subside, enabling the market to expand at a steady CAGR of 2.5% 2015-2019 to reach a total value of almost EUR58.2bn in 2019. As a consequence of PC market maturity and the relatively conservative profile of German consumers , we expect hardware spending to underperform against software and services where stronger growth will be driven especially by increased adoption of cloud services by the public and private sector. Additionally, Germany continues to attract inward investment from leading global IT market vendors, with the internet of things investment a leading trend in 2014 and early 2015. Vend ors are attracted to Germany by an educated workforce and the presence of several major IT companies in the market.

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Hardware Sales: EUR24.5bn in 2014 to EUR24.3bn in 2015, a decrease of 0.8%. The desktop and notebook markets have stabilized after decline 2012-2013, but a slowdown in tablet demand and price erosion across all categories will result in value contraction in 2015.

Software Sales: EUR8.5bn in 2014 to EUR8.8bn in 2015, an increase of 3.6%. Expansion of software-as-a-service supply will enable a deepening of the enterprise software market to a greater portion of the Mittelstadt, offsetting the decline in OS upgrades after the withdrawal of Microsoft support for XP in April 2014 saw some demand brought forward from 2015.

IT Services Sales: EUR18.4bn in 2014 to EUR19.5bn in 2015, an increase of 6.2%. Cloud computing service growth will be the main source of IT services growth outperformance in 2015, but expansion of the outsourcing market and big data services will also make meaningful contributions.
