After a challenging 2014 during which market growth was negatively impacted by political and economic uncertainty , we expect IT market spending growth will accelerate to 4.1% in 2015 as consumer and enterprise confidence recovers. It should however be noted that baht depreciation will continue to weigh on US dollar growth, though not to such as extent as to materially impact our overall assessment of market trends. Looking ahead over the medium term, we forecast an IT market spending CAGR of 6.2% 2015-2019, with total value forecast to reach THB218.8bn in 2019. All three IT market segments are forecast to grow over the medium term, but it is IT services sales that are expected to outperform as adoption of cloud computing services, outsourcing and smart services later in the forecast period drive strong enterprise spending growth. There is however considerable remaining potential for hardware sales growth from both first-time buyers and multiple device households right across Thailand, but with distinct regional disparities .

Headline Expenditure Projections

Computer Hardware Sales: THB87.9bn in 2014 to THB89.6bn in 2015, an increase of 2.0%. Demand will be stronger than in 2014, but price erosion will mean increases in market value trail volume growth in the PC market, particularly for mobile form factors.
Software Sales: THB14.7bn in 2014 to THB15.6bn in 2015, an increase of 6.3%. Growth expected to slow from 2014 when Microsoft XP support withdrawal triggered upgrades. However, enterprise modernisation pressures and increased supply of software-as-a-service will help to boost adoption rates among small- and medium-sized enterprises.
IT Services Sales: THB59.0bn in 2014 to THB62.9bn in 2015, an increase of 6.6%. Adoption of cloud computing services, as well as outsourcing of administrative functions by local enterprises, will underpin IT services outperformance in 2015.
