We believe that grains production growth over the next five years will slow relative to the preceding five. Nevertheless, we forecast strong grains production growth through to the end of our forecast period. Soybean production will outpace that of corn output, as lower production costs for soybean relative to corn will make the commodity more attractive to grow. We also see strong growth in the livestock and dairy sectors, as these will continue to benefit from Russia's ban on imports of US products, which is likely to end in August 2015. We hold a more positive view on the sugar industry now than we have held in the past, due to reforms in the ethanol sector and the significant depreciation in the real over the past several months. Real weakness will be a net positive for the country's agricultural sector.

Key Forecasts

Soybean production growth 2013/14 to 2018/19: 10. 7 % to 9 6 . 0 mn tonnes. Strong growth will come as more area is shifted from corn to soybean over the next few years, due to stronger potential yield growth.
Poultry consumption growth to 2019: 17.8% to 10.7mn tonnes. A growing middle class and the general preference for poultry over all other meat groups because of its health properties and lower prices will encourage demand growth.
Beef production growth to 2018/19: 12.6% to 11.2mn tonnes. Production will grow strongly despite lacklustre demand growth as the country concentrates on increasing exports.
Milk production growth to 2018/19: 21.7% to 40.6mn tonnes. Brazil has the potential to become a significant exporter of dairy products over the forecast period to 2019 if its milk collection and processing infrastructure can be brought up to international standards.
2015 real GDP growth: 0.5 % decline (down from 0.2% in 2014).
2015 consumer price inflation: 6.7 % average (up from 6.3% in 2014).
BMI universe agribusiness market value: 1.8
