Hotel value sales grew by 5% in current terms in 2014 to reach US$113.6 billion, reflecting robust growth of 7% in inbound international arrivals. Since a sharp decline at the height of the recession in 2009, value sales have continued to grow. Growth in 2014 was also driven by a 3% increase in average daily room rate and a 1% increase in occupancy rate. Barring 2010, average daily room rate grew by at least 2% or above throughout the review period.

Hotels is expected to register a robust 5% value CAGR at constant 2014 prices over the forecast period, driven by an increasingly strong US economy and subsequent burgeoning domestic travel as well as an increase in international arrivals. Both business and leisure travel are expected to contribute to this growth as companies and travellers loosen their wallets in response to a slowly improving economic climate. While domestic expenditure on lodging is expected to post a 4% value CAGR at constant 2014 prices, inbound lodging receipts are set to register a 5% value CAGR over the forecast period.
