Forecast demand for car rental is expected to remain strong, boosted by the rising need for self-drive trips for leisure and business purposes as well as the great gap between the number of private cars and licensed drivers who are not able to buy their own car due to the government’s restrictions on car purchasing in order to control traffic congestion and air pollution. Chained operators with nationwide coverage, such as CAR Inc and eHi Car Services Ltd, are expected to outperform other non-chained or regional players, thanks to their large fleets and the convenient services offered by these national players to return cars to a different service location as well as 24-hour operations. On the other hand, mergers and acquisitions are likely to take place causing small players to exit the market over the forecast period, with market share concentrating among leading players.
