The latter became popular only in the review period as a reflection of strong trend that came from more developed countries, primarily Western European countries in which cigarette prices are very high and RYO tobacco presents a much cheaper alternative to cigarettes.

Competitive Landscape

Imperial Tobacco led the category in 2014 with a 42% retail volume share. The manufacturer managed to position itself on the top thanks to good distribution and what is perceived as fair price-quality ratio of its RYO tobacco brands, primarily Filter 57, Drum and Van Nelle. It was followed by Phillip Morris Operations and domestic Monus with respective retail volume shares of 26% and 12%.
