Up to 2014 there were only two key players in smoking tobacco, namely Taru Martani and Bentoel Internasional Investama. The former is a local company, which clearly led RYO tobacco with an 85% volume share in 2014, thanks to its three prominent brands Countryman, Mundi Victor and Violin. Meanwhile, the latter only owns one brand, Mars. As it focuses primarily on white cigarettes, RYO tobacco is not its prime focus; hence the company did not make further inroads in expanding into RYO tobacco.
