Sleep aids is expected to maintain healthy growth during forecast period, although growth in the category is expected to slow down as sales become more stable. Sales in the category are also set to be influenced by the impending ban on OTC melatonin products with a dosage over 0.3mg per tablet. Currently, products containing up to 2mg of melatonin are approved for OTC sale in the country. The switch is set to be introduced in order to prevent consumers taking excessively high dosages of melatonin to disturb their sleeping patterns. It is not yet certain exactly when the ban will be introduced, although it is most likely to negatively influence sales in the category as the ban is likely to mean an adverse publicity for all products containing melatonin. In addition, some products which are currently available for sale likely to be withdrawn from sale after the ban becomes official.
