Competitive Landscape

Taking into consideration the variety of products available within dermatologicals, the category remained highly fragmented in 2015, with a large number of small brands present. Sandoz Ukraine and Segmel maintained the leading positions, each accounting for a 9% retail value share. Sandoz Ukraine retained its position from offering three popular brands – Lamisil and Exoderil, which held first and third places in topical antifungals, and Acick, which was the leader in retail value terms in cold sore treatments in 2015. Sagmel attributes its retail sales to the Relief and Relief Advance brands in haemorrhoid treatments.

Industry Prospects

Over the forecast period dermatologicals will have to withstand the challenging economic and political environment in Ukraine, which is not expected to improve drastically in the short term. Thus, the same trends as those which were evident in 2015 will continue. In particular, Ukrainians will further economise by using herbal/traditional treatments where possible, and buying the cheapest products available. Besides, a further decline of the consumer base will be observed if the war in the east is not stopped.
