The Ministry of Health adopted the FDA’s warning, and also published new recommendations for the consumption of analgesics, which specify certain populations that should avoid taking drugs which contain codeine. Despite rising awareness of the risks caused by analgesics, consumption did not drop. This is because most consumers do not consume analgesics on a regular basis, and therefore the new recommendations did not have much impact on them. In addition, consumers often take analgesics because they are busy and have little or no time to go to their doctor, for whom they are likely to have to wait in a long queue. Thus, they take these medicines occasionally in order to treat mild ailments and pain.
