Newer vehicles frequently include in-dash media players with advanced features such as Bluetooth that lead consumers to more frequently concentrate their aftermarket spending on other features such as back-up cameras and speakers.

Competitive Landscape

Garmin continued to lead the way amongst in-car navigation manufacturers in 2015 with an 82% volume share. As the in-car navigation market has contracted since 2012, Garmin has been able to capitalise on name recognition to remain the market leader.

Industry Prospects

The growth of new car OEM equipment will continue to be a major story for in-car entertainment in the forecast period. American consumers who purchase or lease newer model vehicles tend to avoid spending as much on aftermarket products as they had in the past. Continued growth of the tablet and smartphones markets also continued to put pressure on in-dash media players as consumers are more capable of substituting a mobile device for a dedicated in-car device.
