In-car entertainment continued to perform negatively in 2015 as a 2% volume sales decline was recorded. In-car speakers and in-dash media players are not highly important devices used in cars, and for Czechs they often are not needed, which is reflected in their small volume sales in the country. For in-car navigation, strong competition from smartphones is hampering the growth of the category as smartphones are often used as alternative navigation devices in Czech cars.

Competitive Landscape

Two companies held strong positions in in-car navigation during 2015. TomTom International BV ranked first with a 30% volume share, followed by Garmin Ltd with a 26% volume share. Both companies focused on similar strategies, the strong promotion of their products on the internet and through retailers, the high availability of their products and maintaining their well-developed distribution channels. The third-ranked player, the domestic company Dynavix AS, held a 10% volume share in 2015 thanks to rising consumer-awareness of its products in the country. None of the competing players recorded a significant volume share change during 2015.

The strong competition from smartphones is expected to continue over the forecast period, and again negatively impact sales of in-car navigation. Czechs will not perceive in-car entertainment products as needed, especially in-car speakers, and will stay conservative regarding them, even if their purchasing power increases.
