Imaging Devices in Turkey - New Market Study Published

From: Fast Market Research, Inc.
Published: Thu Dec 31 2015

Imaging devices demonstrated another significant decline of 43% in volume terms in 2015, as an inevitable consequence of the remarkably increasing sales of camera phones, which have similar capacity to fixed lens cameras. SLR and compact system cameras were less affected by this development at the end of the review period, thanks to the ongoing popularity of photography, which mainly stemmed from the rapidly changing preferences of the new middle class living in big cities around Turkey, along with the income level increase that was observed from earlier to mid stages of the review period, and rapid urbanisation. To give an example, along with the rapid urbanisation and rising population of the new middle class, usage of social media platforms such as Instagram increased rapidly and this boosted the number of consumers who were enthusiastic about professional photography, over the course of the review period.

Competitive Landscape

Canon Eurasia Goruntuleme ve Ofis Sistemleri AS led imaging devices with a 19% volume share in 2015, thanks to the fact that the company’s Canon brand was a highly-recognised brand and the brand had a positive perception in the eye of consumers in terms of quality, as of the end of the review period. Karfo Karacasulu Fotograf Malzemeleri AS, which is the only distributor of the Nikon brand in Turkey, closely followed Canon Eurasia in terms of retail sales, with a volume share of 18% in 2015. Both companies gained share at the end of the review period, thanks to the fact that Samsung narrowed its product range within cameras and thus the brand lost significant share within imaging devices by the end of the review period.

Industry Prospects

Imaging devices is set to see volume sales fall at a CAGR of 9% over the forecast period, as a consequence of the prospective effects of the continuous shift towards smartphones with higher-quality cameras. Nevertheless, the volume CAGR is expected to be significantly higher than the negative review period CAGR of 22%, owing to the fact that the penetration rate of smartphones in Turkey is predicted to reach a relatively more mature level and therefore its volume growth will slow down during the forecast period.
