Baumax Magyarország Kereskedelmi Zrt left Hungarian home improvement and gardening stores and emptied all of its 16 outlets within a very short period of time supported by huge stock clearances. The retailer claimed that a longer than expected recessionary period in home improvement retailing, continuously declining sales and poor profitability outlook as the main reasons for exiting Hungarian home improvement and garden specialist retailers. The timing of its withdrawal was parallel with a regional restructuring plan to revitalise Austrian, Czech and Slovakian markets.
