Competitive Landscape

SM Retail Inc continued to lead grocery retailers in 2015 with a number of highly popular brands. Therefore, income-generating brands such as SM Hypermarket, SM Supermarket and Save More Supermarket are under its wing. In order to attract more consumers, it continued to implement its one-price nationwide policy for all of its grocery stores for the benefit of its customers. In addition, it also added more ready-to-eat items and meals such as hot roast, baked goods and Filipino delicacies to its current offerings to cater to local consumers’ needs for convenience. 2015 also witnessed the increase in Alfamart outlets, which is the company’s convenience store import. It opened 28 branches during the review period and is set to launch additional outlets due to the fast-growing competition in the field.
