Market Report, "Mixed Retailers in Venezuela", published

From: Fast Market Research, Inc.
Published: Fri Mar 11 2016

In 2015, the mixed retailer channel continued to witness a fall in number of outlets and a lack of innovation. The number of outlets fell by 2% to 269. Operators focused on trying to offer an attractive product range in existing stores rather than expanding their networks. Import restrictions and complex labour regulations were the main factors behind this.

Competitive Landscape

Department store operator Traki remained by far the most important player in mixed retailers in 2015, commanding a value share of 49%, also ranking fourth in overall retailing with a 2% value share. The company’s share in mixed retailers increased significantly at the beginning of the review period thanks to the opening of new stores, with its outlet network reaching 49 in 2015. The chain focuses on offering low prices to its target audience. It has a lower-middle price positioning, running frequent promotions offering up to 50% discounts on selected products. Traki sought to improve its stores over the review period by making them more comfortable and attractive.
