Instant coffee recorded retail volume growth of just 3% in 2015, this being much slower than the 10% gain registered in 2011 and also the review period average of 6%.
Competitive Landscape
Nestlé (China) Ltd continued to dominate coffee in China in 2015, commanding a value share of 72%, down slightly from 73% in 2014 due to fiercer competition from new players. Nevertheless, the company recorded positive value sales growth in 2015 as it benefited from a strong foothold in instant coffee through Nescafé and robust growth in fresh coffee pods through its Nespresso brand.
