Competitive Landscape

Coca-Cola Ltd and PepsiCo Beverages Canada remain the two dominant players with retail value shares of 36% and 26%, respectively, in 2015. In general, the two have been executing a diversification strategy for many years, and hence have expanded into a wide range of beverage businesses, including bottled water, juice, RTD tea, energy drinks and concentrates. Coca-Cola even ventured into the dairy business to the south of the border with its launch of Fairlife brand milk which is originally from Mike and Sue McCloskey, Indiana dairy farmers in the US. It is not clear whether the brand will make it into Canada, but it still shows the level of commitment Coca-Cola has to alternative businesses to carbonates.
