Published: Sun Mar 20 2016

Food preparation appliances put in a good performance in 2015, growing by 5% in volume as sales benefited from the home cooking trend and the influence of television cookery shows such as MasterChef Australia. Additionally, the kitchen has assumed greater importance in the Australian home as consumers are spending more time at home, resulting in a stronger desire for stylish and sleek food preparation appliances which can be left on the countertop as a design statement.

Competitive Landscape

Breville Group Ltd remained the leading player in food preparation Appliances 2015 with its two brands Breville and Kambrook, although the company’s value share slipped from 27% in 2014 to 26% in 2015, the continuation of a long-term downwards trend. This had a particularly negative impact on the Breville brand, with the volume share of the brand in food preparation appliances falling from 11% in 2014 to 9% in 2015. Kambrook, on the other hand, performed much better in 2015 as its value share in food preparation appliances increased to 13%, up from 12% in 2014. This was largely due to the success of the Kambrook Blitz2Go blender, which performed well in 2015 and captured 29% of volume sales in countertop blenders during the year. The brand launched a nationwide television campaign for the 2015 Christmas period and spots were broadcast across a range of popular programmes on both free-to-air and subscription television channels. Continuing the success of Kambrook’s Blitz2Go, the company introduced the BlitzPro in 2015, which comes with an extra sports bottle and more power than the previous version.
