RLCTX Files A Petition In Intervention In Amy Hedtke v Rep. Byron Cook Case
The Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas has filed a Petition In Intervention in the Amy Hedtke case involving State Representative Byron Cook. We are gracious to our counsel, Chuck Meyer, who has taken this on and stand by Amy Hedtke. The Republican Liberty Caucus has always been the champions of Individual Liberty in the Republican Party and will continue to be.
We cannot think of a more egregious violation of one's civil liberties either under the US Constitution or the Texas State Constitution than the actions of Rep. Byron Cook to have Ms. Hedtke removed and arrested from a public meeting in the Texas State Capitol for recording, which she has every legal right to do under the Texas Open Meetings Act. The fact this action was done by a Republican lawmaker is even more troublesome and further demands our attention. RLC of Texas Chairman Jeff LeBlanc commented that "there can be no greater violation of one's civil rights than that of law enforcement following unjust orders from Representatives like Byron Cook who should have to respect established law. Mr. Cook is not a king and he serves in the people's house, not his personal castle. It is a sad day when a Republican office holder fails to uphold the law. We expect better of our elected representatives."
We wish Ms. Hedtke good will and our continued support in this legal battle, and stand ready to fight tyranny against the liberties of the people of Texas. We hope this will aid in stopping State Legislators & other State Committees that fall under the Texas Open Meetings Act from blocking public participation in the future. And lastly, that it bring clear transparency to the government, who should be serving the people openly, fully and honestly.
