This years’ IIFA 2008 awards event was unraveled at the Thai capital Bangkok bringing many Bollywood celebrities together under one roof.

The IIFA event commenced with Shah Rukh Khan starrer `Om Shanti Om` sweeping most number of technical awards of the evening. The film garnered awards for best special effects - Red Chillies Entertainment), best art direction - Sabu Cyril, best costume design - Manish Malhotra, Karan Johar and Sanjeev Mulchandani and best makeup.
Mani Ratnam`s `Guru` won the awards for best background score - AR Rahman and best song recording - H Sridhar. The award for best screenplay was won jointly by Anurag Basu - `Life in a Metro` and Jaideep Sahni - `Chak De! India’. `Chak De! India` also took home the trophy for best cinematography. Imtiyaz Ali was named the best dialogue writer for ‘Jab We Met’.
The biggest disappointment though was the absence of Aamir Khan`s directorial debut `Taare Zameen Par` as the actor had not forwarded his film for the awards.
The premieres of Bollywood’s most awaited films this year ‘Sarkar Raj’, concluded with fireworks as the much-awaited awards were announced.
