London based charity WORLDwrite wins National Lottery support for film on women

Published: Thu Mar 29 2018

The project will interview women across the generations from the 20’s to the 90’s for a feature length documentary and provide free film training for one hundred volunteers interested in getting involved. Visits to collections to research archive, workshops with historians on changes in law and on the impact of campaigns will also help bring alive and put in perspective, women’s position as equal citizens today. While upskilling volunteers in all aspects of broadcast-quality production, the charity aims to promote a compelling intergenerational conversation which charts the gains of the last 100 years.

WORLDwrite Director Ceri Dingle said today: "We’re thrilled to have this vital National Lottery support which will make possible an epic voyage of discovery. The stories of women in everyday life, whether in their 90’s or 30’s offer such a rich heritage trail and many a tale rarely told, on life, work, sex, education, leisure and motherhood. We’re aiming for a final film fit for screening everywhere which documents the great advances we’ve made and wonders at the robustness of women."

Stuart Hobley, Head of HLF London, said: "It’s been a century since women, those over the age of 30, gained the right to vote. Now, thanks to National Lottery players, 100 volunteers in London will ensure the voices and stories of women in the 100 years since can be heard and celebrated – many for the very first time."

The charity is running free film training covering camera, lighting, sound and interview technique over Easter for everyone interested in the project.
