Heal America's Divisions by Understanding our Identity

Anthony Thomas Vento’s book American Identity is now available on Amazon. According to Vento, the 324-page book is meant to be salutary to establish unity in a country that’s being bifurcated by division and misunderstanding of core values and human dignity.

Vento wrote the book to define the identity of America. According to Vento, "this book defines the United States of America as the new Israel in that we are the firstborn of many sons in order to show God’s light, which is His law to the world and to be a blessing for the world on the path toward God."

The values and rules of a community are not enough to keep the integrity of its members. A person could observe the law, but not respect or care about a community’s goals and aspirations. This can happen during times of distress and emergency. As such, different celebrations are used to integrate the members of the community once more, and some of these events are recollections of past occasions that define a nation’s identity. The feeling of belonging is extremely important for every person, and it can help them form their own view of the world. Belonging to a community is an important part of human life. However, knowing that they belong to a certain community means that their life is meaningful. Anthony Vento’s book answers how being an American affects one’s life.

The American identity is not just about diversity. Many Americans believe that the ability to realize the American dream, an impartial judiciary and legal protection are important aspects of the national identity. In fact, three in ten Americans regard the identity of the country as secure, and seven in ten think the country is losing its national identity. These outlooks are connected to threats to the country’s identity and pride. Most Americans are proud of the country’s military and many creative, athletic and scientific, but less than half show great pride in how democracy in the U.S. is working. Many say that political polarization is a great threat to America’s way of life.

Today’s society is continuously evolving. New progress is made every day. It might be along the lines of medicine, knowledge or technology. Compared to other nations, the U.S. is a younger country. It is because of this that the U.S. evolves at a much faster rate than other countries. Recent revolts occur in areas where the controlling government restricts the power of the people. In today’s society, it’s the people who limit the controlling government’s power. When the power is given to those who it affects, it pushes people to question and explore the unknown of the country they control.

American Identity is a great read for everyone, particularly for those who are sons of the law and seek peace.
