Local girls make it as models at The Maynard

Kim Wakelam, 19, from Eyam in the Hope Valley, and Michelle Read, 21, of Darley Dale in Derbyshire responded to The Maynard’s request for local amateur models recently, to supplement the professional models being used for the hotel’s new marketing literature.

The girls beat off stiff local competition and won a meal for two at The Maynard, plus a free professional photography portfolio for their efforts. One of their photos appears on The Maynard’s new website at www.themaynard.co.uk/business/ and the hotel may use their pictures in other literature in the future.

It was a particularly rewarding experience for Kim. "I was pleased that The Maynard recognised that I had some potential and it was great experience doing the shoot, she said."

Michelle also enjoyed the experience: "It was really exciting to get the modelling job at The Maynard as I’m getting married there on 9 May next year! It was fantastic to see the newly refurbished rooms and we can’t wait for the wedding day to come around. We have already enjoyed our free meal in The Maynard’s new restaurant and I’m sure our wedding guests are going to be impressed with the food."

Paul Downing, director of The Maynard, said: "The shoot was great fun for everyone involved, and it was a good opportunity to involve local residents in our new marketing literature and create a bit of a buzz. I think we did that and the new website and literature is already going down well with everyone who sees it. The new look is fairly radical, but it needed to be to match the transformation that has taken place with the bedrooms."

Liz Downing, marketing manager for The Maynard and an ex-model herself, said: "We’d like to thank Kim and Michelle plus all the other ‘hopefuls’ who turned up for auditions but who were not successful this time. I think Kim and Michelle both have something special about them and it has been great to feature them on our new website. We look forward to seeing Michelle again next May for her wedding day!"
