The Secret Life of a Home Worker............

Security breaches caused by employees working from home are costing businesses more than £8.5 billion - according to research published today by IT security experts Novell. The company is calling on employers to face the truth about unseen security risks.

And it seems security breaches aren't the only problems employers face ---- one in five Briton's would like to work from home to have the chance to watch daytime television and skive off ..

The Novell survey found homeworkers are more worried about what's on TV, feeling lonely and missing the buzz of the office than taking IT security seriously. The research found workers are ignoring standard IT security procedures, common breaches include surfing the net and downloading virus-infected programmes onto their PC's.

Four out of five Britons admit to taking no security precautions whilst working from home --- and it seems homeworkers don't appreciate the risk they pose.

What Steve Brown will say ..

The number of people working from home or from a remote office is growing all the time.
The benefits of having a more flexible workforce are clear, but the dangers are sometimes less obvious.
As the numbers of home workers grow, so does the number of security risks to businesses.
Security just isn’t top of the home workers agenda. The only way to protect against this growing type of security threat is to take the responsibility off home workers.
