Autoworld bucks credit crunch with record breaking motor sales

Published: Wed Nov 12 2008

Chesterfield based motor group Autoworld, has announced that many of their franchises have smashed the targets set them by manufacturers, with figures for the year at 175% of target - despite the announcement by the SMMT (Society of Manufacturers and Motor Traders) that the motor industry has shown a decline in the sales of new registrations in October, down 23% year on year.

The announcement from Autoworld on Brimington Road North comes as the SMMT has released figures which show that the new car market fell for a sixth successive month in October - the steepest decline recorded so far in 2008 and similar to the dramatic falls reported in 1991.

Paul Burtoft, one of the dealer principles at Autoworld, says: "Although nationally the motor industry is having a difficult time, we are delighted to say that we have some extremely positive figures to report. So far this year Fiat new car sales are at 150% of manufacturer’s target and we predict this will continue to rise; Seat new car sales are at 160% of manufacturer’s target and with the launch of the new Seat Exeo next February, the positive interest in Seat should grow; and Suzuki new car sales are at a staggering 175% of manufacturer’s target."

The chief executive of the SMMT suggests that the decline in national figures are largely down to
‘a lack of confidence ‘ from consumers and that decisive action is needed to get people back into
the showrooms. Paul Burtoft suggests that Autoworld are always asking customers what they want in a car. "Often the best guidance can be drawn from what your customers tell you. For example we knew from speaking to our customers that the interest in fuel efficient cars was growing and so we grew our ‘Litre Beaters’ range which includes the Fiat 500, Suzuki Swift and the Grande Punto to give customers more choice and better value; all of these cars have performed well. In the face of difficult times it is important to remain customer-led. We are all facing financial challenges at the moment so Autoworld is doing its best to ease the pressure on motorists and come up with the best all round deals that tick people’s boxes on fuel efficiency, affordability and overall return on investment. "
Autoworld has a number of promotional events planned in the near future to back their commitment of making a new car affordable to most people: their first ever ‘Car Swap’ event is running until 4pm on 16 November and there are also plans to offer a ‘buy one car get one free’ deal.

Paul adds, "We have some really exciting times ahead at Autoworld - in part due to the great promotions we have planned but also there are some very exciting new launches around the corner. The Hyundi i20 in December, the Alfa Romeo MiTo which you can see in the showrooms now, and the Fiat 500 Abarth in March are all launches that are creating a great deal of excitement. We are determined to give customers what they want from a motor dealer, at a price that is affordable on what may be a reducing household budget."
